Native New Mexican, Damien Gonzales paints the dramatic landscapes and weather of the region. Gonzales is a self-taught artist who received artistic guidance since childhood from many artists including Esquipula Romero, Josef Bakos and Wilson Hurley. He has a degree in engineering and applies his technical knowledge to his art to more accurately interpret and convey what he sees. His representational style is influenced by formal aspects of the European tradition and more impressionistic forms of painting. Gonzales’s goal is to contribute to the ongoing legacy of fine Western art. Damien, his wife Alma Rosa, and their four children live in Albuquerque, NM.
