Francois De Blois (1829 - 1913)  Artworks >>

A painter, Francois B. De Blois is thought by our Canadian sources to have been possibly born in the province of Quebec, and by some American sources to have been born in Boston (see below). However, all agree that he lived most of his life in Boston, Massachusetts. His primary medium was oil on canvas. His subjects included genre*, still life, landscapes, rivers, villages, harbors, snowscapes, coastal views, and farm-life. His style is Realism*. AskART has some excellent illustrations of his work. His formal art education includes studies in Europe (c.1870) under Charles-François Daubigny (see AskART) probably in Paris or Auvers sur Oise a suburb to the north of Paris; and under Vincenzo Marinelli (see AskART) in Naples, Italy. De Blois's paintings were exhibited in the Paris Salon* (1878); and in the United States with the Boston Athenaeum* (1867 - 1873), Brooklyn Art Association (1874), Boston Art Club* (1875 - 1882), and the National Academy of Design* (1880 - 1882). More recently, a De Blois painting was included in the 2008 exhibition titled "The Grand Tour Art and Travel, 1740 - 1914" at the Indiana University Art Museum. Francois De Blois works are frequently traded on the auction market and they are in numerous private collections. Source askart.com
