Painting since 1972, Dennis Schmidt worked as a welder and machinist from 1966 to 1976 when he left to embark on his full-time career as a painter. From 1979 to 1990, he also did numerous limited edition prints of his work. In his 28 years as a professional artist, Mr. Schmidt is the recipient of many awards. Among these are numerous Best of Show, Gold and Silver Medals, eight consecutive popular choice awards at the Texas Ranges Hall of Fame as well as several Artist awards from his peers. From 1984 to 1990, Dennis Schmidt served as Vice President of the Texas Association of Professional Artists. He was referenced in the book "Contemporary Western Artists" by Peggy anc Harold Samuels and has been interviewed for numerous publications including feature articles in "Southwest Art Magazine" and "State of the Art." In 1978, Schmidt was the first artist ever honored with a one-man show at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame; prior to 1978 they were all multi-artist events. Born in 1950, Dennis Schmidt is a native of Texas living in Austin since 1988. He participates in the Annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Governor's Invitational as well as the Great American Artist's Exhibition and Sale in Terrace Park Cincinnati, OH; the Gilcrease Museum Miniatures Show in Tulsa, OK; the Settlers West Gallery Miniatures Show in Tucson, AZ; Mountain Oyster Club Show in Tucson, AZ and the Museum of Western Art Annual Roundup in Kerrville, TX.
