Signed: "Paul Calle (c) 1976", l/l
Paul Calle painted a variety of subject matter within Western art; however, he was most recognized for his depictions of the mountain man of the early 1800s. In his biography, An Artist's Journey, the artist speaks to a man's relationship to his environment: "The faces tell the story. The stories they tell are stories of adventure and courage, of solitude and camaraderie, of wisdom and wonder." One of the highlights of his career was a one man retrospective at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1991.
