Zhiwei Tu (b. 1951)  Artworks >>

For about a decade Mr. Tu was dedicated to building, originally at his own expense and later with the assistance of his many friends in China and the U.S. and the Chinese government, an extraordinary two-building museum, art research center, and artists' retreat within a modest drive of the small village where he grew up. It is located "on the bank of the beautiful Wengyuan River, a tributary of the North River of Guangdong." As the web site describes, "Its main building consists of eight showrooms, two storage rooms, and four art studios with living quarters for visiting artists. The museum also has an art research center, a seminar and conference room, and a public book store and gift shop. The Zhiwei Tu Art Museum's collection is comprised of over 400 pieces of art spanning Mr. Tu's lifetime, from his childhood to the present. It includes drawings, gouaches and oils, and carefully details the growth and development of this important artist." Mr. Tu also was commissioned to paint an enormous mural for one of the main buildings at the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center in the capital city of Guangdong Province.
