Jim Budish (b. 1951)  Artworks >>

Raised in Colorado, Jim Budish is a sculptor who attended the Art Students League of Denver and the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts. With a family to support, Budish worked in real estate development before returning to sculpture while in his 40s. Budish sculpts in the hopes of capturing the unique movement, emotion or spirit of the animal. He began by sculpting animals representationally but was not finding the satisfaction that he eventually found by sculpting the animal in a minimalist style while also finding the animal's special quality and exaggerating it. His subjects include horses with lanky legs joyously kicking their back legs and dogs with long wagging tails and tongues hanging out of their mouths. Budish has found success with his whimsical wildlife sculptures. In 2003 a monumental version of Chauncey, a rabbit with soaring ears, was selected by the Loveland Colorado High Plains Arts Council for permanent installation at the Benson Sculpture Park in Loveland.
