At the end of the 19th century & beginning of the 20th century, Joseph H. Sharp painted on the Crow Agency in Montana. Commissioned by Phoebe Hearst and the Smithsonian, Sharp, according to Forrest Fenn, painted portraits of at least 212 Indians who fought against Custer. In addition, he painted portraits of Custer's Indian Scouts. Curly served as a scout for Custer at the battle of the Little Bighorn.
