The patinaed version of this bronze was the recipient of the silver medal at the 1971 Cowboy Artists of America (CAA) exhibition at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, now the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Illustrated in "Harry Jackson" by Larry Pointer and Donald Goddard, (pls. 290-291), this bronze was initially created as a study for a mural commission by the Mellon family to be placed in the Fr. Pitt Museum, Pittsburgh, PA. The mural was a narrative of the French and Indian war. Frank Getlein, "Harry Jacskson Monograph - Catalogue", Kennedy Galleries, Inc. New York, 1969.
