Sadie Curtis (1930-2012) and Alice Belone (1930-) are two of the most famous weavers from the Ganado, Arizona area. Sadie passed away in 2012, and Alice is no longer weaving due to advanced age. Sadie was the subject of a 2006 documentary film by Laurie McDonald. She achieved national prominence through the weaving of an American Flag for the 1976 Bicentennial celebration in Washington, DC, appearing with the weaving on the cover of "Arizona Highways" magazine, July, 1976. Alice is known for re-spinning her yarn to create very fine, soft textiles. She has been featured in a demonstration of weaving at the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado, Arizona. Provenance: Garland's Navajo Rugs, Sedona, AZ Private Collection, Wyoming. The current offering was the product of a year-long collaboration of the two artists in 1985.
