Inscribed rear: John Coleman 19-25 © 98
The Rainmaker by John Coleman was inspired by the journals and diaries of the noted American painter George Catlin (1796 1872). During his travels Catlin observed a number of sacred Indian ceremonies that involved an appeal to the Great Spirit for the life giving source of water–rain. This ceremony was virtually the same among pre-historic tribes of native Americans from coast to coast.
