Born in Chicago, he became a painter of western scenes including Indian figures and genre.
In Chicago, he took classes at the Frederic Mizen Academy and the Art Institute of Chicago. He spent most of World War II as a B-17 pilot in England documenting his experiences with realistic paintings of aircraft in combat. After the War, he worked as a commercial artist and portrait painter. He has also painted many landscapes, working in the field with camera to record details and watercolors to capture the mood.
