John Suazo (b. 1951)  Artworks >>

John Suazo is a Taos Pueblo stone sculptor. He works mostly in alabaster, coming in many colors, and limestone. John believes the purpose of his work is to bring joy and happiness to those who want to see and touch. His work is simple, yet very profound. They are of simplification can only be achieved when one has mastered the are of sculpting after years of study and work. The stone speaks to John and it says "Let me Breathe". There are a thousand stories that the stone has witnessed in its formation, but only one story can be told and that story can only be carved out if the artist works in harmony with the stone. For Suazo, bringing out this story from the stone is a journey, a long and winding road that takes him back to when the people of his tribe lived a much simpler life of stone, smoke, wood, and earth. Exhibitions: Harwood Museum, Taos, NM June 1 - September 10, 2006 - 30-year retrospective. Reference: askart.com
