With the unaided eye, the piece appears to be in very good condition. Closer inspection under ultraviolet light reveals an area of inpainting, about 2 inches by ¾ inch in size just underneath the main subject character. This inpainting is on an area where a patch has been applied to the verso of the canvas. The remainder of the canvas shows a normal fluorescence of artist's pigments. The piece is framed in a gold, ornate frame with a linen liner and a gold inner liner. The frame is in good condition with normal wear. Verso: Inscribed on stretcher bar: Remington Schuyler provenance: Southwest Museum, Los Angeles, Calif. Label: Du Mouchelle Fine Arts Appraisers and Auctioneers, Detroit, Michigan.
Signed l/r: Remington Schuyler [indecipherable inscription]
