Signed l/l: JH Sharp. Although best-known as a figure painter, Sharp enjoyed painting a variety of subject matter. During the 1930s, he began doing still lifes--many of them life-size--using cut flowers from the gardens between his Taos, New Mexico house and studio. The present offering is illustrated on page 271 of Forrest Fenn's biography of the artist, "Tepee Smoke."
