Lot Condition Report:

I have read this Important Notice and agree to its terms.

This drawing is in very good condition. Close inspection reveals nothing of issue. The piece is framed under glass and has not been inspected outside of the frame. The spacers between the glass and the drawing are slightly visible. The work is framed in a gray rustic molding with a linen liner and a silver inner liner. The frame is in very good condition with little wear. Brass plate: The Riding Big Dance, Tom Lovell. Verso: Inscribed in artist’s hand: The Riding Big Dance. In Blackfoot culture this dance was a preliminary to the departure of a scalp-raiding party. The warriors rode out of camp, changed to their war clothes and returned carrying their weapons. Later they danced on foot, imitating the prancing of the horses which stepped beside them to the beating of their drums. Tom Lovell. Label: Altermann and Morris Galleries.
