In Blackfoot culture this dance was a preliminary to the departure of a scalp-raiding party. The warriors rode out of camp, changed to their war clothes and returned carrying their weapons. Later they danced on foot, imitating the prancing of the horses which stepped beside them to the beating of their drums. Tom Lovell. Label: Altermann and Morris Galleries.
