Lot Condition Report:

I have read this Important Notice and agree to its terms.

This piece is in very good condition. With the unaided eye there are no issues. Closer inspection under ultraviolet light reveals normal fluorescence of artist's pigments and no signs of restoration. The work is mounted under glass and has not been inspected out of the frame. The piece is framed in a brown/gold frame with a cream linen liner and a cream matting. The matting is signed; ‘Ute Lookout and Stolen Horses’ From the Sketch Book of Byron B. Wolfe. The frame is in very good condition with normal wear. An artist bio is provided on the back of the piece. Verso on the back of the piece: ‘UTE LOOKOUT AND STOLEN HORSES’ TIME – 1600’s INTO 1800s PLACE – SOUTHWEST TO CENTRAL PLAINS. REF – THE TREASURY OF HORSES by Walter D. Osborne & Patricia H Johnson. NOTE- In the year 1694 alone, 100,000 horses were stolen from the Spanish settlements in the southwest. Next the Indians made horse raids on his Indian enemies. This was a game and a great status symbol, a sign of great bravery
