This piece is in very good condition. With the unaided eye there are no issues. Closer inspection under ultraviolet light reveals normal fluorescence of artist's pigments and no signs of restoration. The work is mounted under glass and has not been inspected out of the frame. The piece is framed in a brown frame with a cream linen liner, gold fillet, and a cream matting. The matting is signed; ‘The Charge and Death of Roman Nose, War Chief’ From the Sketch Book of Byron B. Wolfe. The frame is in very good condition with normal wear. Verso on the back of the piece: ‘THE CHARGE AND DEATH OF ROMAN NOSE, WAR CHIEF’ TIME – 1868 PLACE ARICKAREE FORK OF THE REPUBLICAN RIVER IN THE NORTH EASTERN CORNER OF COLORADO.
